J.Robert Huber studied chemistry at the ETH-Zürich (1963), and carried out his doctoral thesis under Prof.Hs.H.Günthard in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry of the ETH-Zürich (1966). With a fellowship from the National Academy of Science and the US Army, he worked for one year as a post-doctoral fellow at the Army Pioneering Research Laboratory in Natick, Massachusetts. From 1968-73, he was first an Assistant Professor then Associate Professor in the Chemistry Department of Northeastern University, Boston. In 1972, he was appointed at the newly founded University of Konstanz as Full Professor of Physical Chemistry. Between 1973 and 1979, his duties at the University of Konstanz where interrupted by a research sabbatical at the University of California in Berkeley, USA. He became Full Professor of Physical Chemistry at the University of Zürich in 1979. In 2001 he became Professor Emeritus.
